Ensuring secure drug management and high-quality
pharmacy support for research studies.

The Pharmacy Department at Pwani Research Centre plays a central role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant management of all investigational and approved medicinal products used across clinical studies. Our team oversees the full lifecycle of study drugs—from receipt, storage, and dispensing to accountability and final reconciliation—ensuring every step adheres to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory guidelines, and sponsor requirements.

With specialised storage facilities, including temperature-controlled environments, the department maintains strict quality assurance standards to preserve product integrity. Continuous monitoring systems and validated handling procedures ensure that all medications remain within the specified conditions, supporting the reliability and scientific validity of each research study.

The pharmacy team works closely with principal investigators, clinicians, and study coordinators to ensure accurate dosing, participant safety, and seamless integration of pharmaceutical processes into study workflows. Through meticulous documentation and cross-departmental collaboration, the department upholds participant safety while supporting high-quality clinical research.

Beyond routine dispensing, the department provides training to study teams on drug handling, conducts internal audits, and supports regulatory inspections. By combining expertise, precision, and rigorous oversight, the Pharmacy Department strengthens PRC’s commitment to ethical research, operational excellence, and improved health outcomes through well-managed clinical trials
